The Holy Childhood Celebrations of Fort Portal Diocese were successfully held under the theme: “As a Child of Holy Childhood, I Can Evangelize.” The event was organized by Fr. Joakim Kassuja, Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), together with Bro. Simon Peter Nsubuga, Coordinator of the Holy Childhood Association.

The celebrations attracted an impressive participation from 29 of the 37 parishes in the diocese, bringing together over 1,000 children accompanied by 74 animators. The gathering provided the children with an opportunity to deepen their missionary spirit while showcasing their faith, talents, and commitment to evangelization.

On Saturday, the participating parishes competed in various activities, including the Holy Childhood Prayer, Bible reading, original composition, and traditional dance. The presentations reflected the children’s creativity, confidence, and understanding of their missionary calling.

On 12 July 2026, the celebrations reached their climax with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rt. Rev. Robert K. Muhiirwa, Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese. The children actively participated in the liturgy through the choir, Scripture readings, prayers of the faithful, procession dances, and the presentation of offertory gifts, making the celebration vibrant and prayerful.

As a memorable gift, an official portrait of Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa was presented to every participating parish. In appreciation of their dedication to missionary formation, missionary rosaries were also presented to all the animators.

In the spirit of the Holy Childhood motto, “Children Helping Children,” the participants extended their love and compassion by donating foodstuffs to Tooro Babies Home. This charitable gesture demonstrated that evangelization is not only proclaimed through words but also lived through acts of kindness and service to those in need.

The celebrations strengthened the missionary identity of the children and inspired them to continue witnessing Christ in their families, schools, parishes, and communities. The event was a joyful reminder that children are active missionaries of the Church and have an important role in spreading the Gospel.
