FUNDRAISING FOR ST. CHARLES CATHOLIC CHURCH – IBONDE*

*Virika Cathedral Parish, Fort Portal Diocese*

On *Saturday, 22^nd August 2026*, Christians of St. Charles Catholic Church Ibonde, Virika Cathedral Parish joyfully held a major fundraising drive for the construction of their church.

The function started with *Holy Mass at 10:00 AM*, presided over by the main celebrant *Rt. Rev. Robert K. Muhiirwa*, Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, who is a proud son of Ibonde village. In his homily, Bishop Muhiirwa thanked God for the gift of faith that started in this very village and called upon all Christians to build a worthy house for the Lord where he himself received his first sacraments.

The entire church construction project is estimated to cost *UGX 800 Million*, covering foundation, walls, roofing, flooring, windows, and finishing, furniture, statutory approvals and professional fees. Today 32,959,100/- cash and 18,395,000/-giving total collection 51,354,100/-

Our *Guest of Honor was Hon. Joseph Mugenyi Ateenyi*, Member of Parliament for Burahya County, who represented *Hon. Minister Margaret Muhanga Abwooli*, Woman MP for Burahya and Minister of State for Primary Health Care. Hon. Mugenyi commended the unity of Ibonde Christians and pledged continued support from government leaders towards faith-based development.

The fundraising was well attended by priests from Virika Cathedral Fort portaldiocese, religious leaders, local council leaders, and hundreds of faithful from Ibonde and neighboring communities.

We sincerely thank all who contributed in cash, pledges, and in kind. Special thanks to Bishop Robert Muhiirwa, Hon. Minister Margaret Muhanga, Hon. Joseph Mugenyi Ateenyi, and all Christians of Ibonde.
