FOUNDATION OF BANYATEREZA SISTERS.

We are a Religious Congregation of Diocesan Rite founded by Rt.Rev.Bishop Francis Xavier Lacoursiere, a Missionary of Africa in 1937.He was assisted by Rev. Fr. Ulrich Beauchamp who acted as a principal teacher in effecting the formation of the first sisters.The call to found a native congregation in Tooro came as a result of the need to evangelize the local people. At that time Christianity was new,many people were illiterate and had not received the”Good News”

Our Founders chose Saint Therese of the Child Jesus ,patroness of missionaries as our principal patroness. We cultivate a special devotion to her and imitate her faith, love trust humility and spirit of self-sacrifice.Our Consecration to God in view of spreading Christ’s Kingdom,is effected by our love for Our Lady. We take from Therese a Carmelite, the spirit of prayer and recollection ;and we follow in her religious life a way of Spiritual Childhood,in which we are full of comfidence in God ,like a child in her Father’s arms. Following Saint Therese’s missionary spirit, we pray for Priests and missionaries; and we work with love to spread the faith to the people we meet and work with.

Core valves: Three evangelical counsels (chastity, poverty and obedience) prayer, community living ,love ,hospitality ,self sacrifice ,observation of the moments of silence ,and sanctification of the present moment.

Therefore we evangelize through:

• Active Prayer and Work
• Teaching Catechism
• Ministry to the Family and the poor
• Teaching in Schools at all levels
• Health Services
• Special ministry to women ,the Youth and the Children.

Participating in varius Economic ,social and pastral projects.

Currently we are serving in Uganda ,Kenya , Rwanda and south sudan.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

• Baptismal and Confirmation certificates in the catholic faith.
• Age between 18-30years
• Physically healthy with a health certificate from a recommended Doctor
• One must have successfully completed senior six or has at least a recognized certificate in the field related to our apostolate.
• Recommendation from a Parish priest ,Catechist ,Head of small Christian community,Head Teacher of your former school/Institute.
• If a candidate is a convert from another faith she should have spent not less than 3 y3ars practicing Catholicism and should be known to the sisters.
